SW Terwilliger & SW Taylor’s Ferry

If you commute by bike, like many Portlanders, then you will know there is a certain specific frustration that bikers have with traffic signals. Most Portlanders prefer to follow the rules of the road, which includes waiting for turn signals and green lights.

Turning left onto Taylor’s Ferry at this intersection however is a no win situation, the sensor does not detect your bike so you are faced with three options. 1: Wait for a car to trigger the sensor for you, 2: Wait for a gap in the traffic and turn illegally, 3: Walk your bike across the crosswalk, waiting for two light cycles.

There is another option if you are turning west onto Taylor’s Ferry you can cut through the gas station on the corner and then hope you can get through the traffic waiting to cross Terwilliger. Good luck!
